Both are contained in the product and both are consumed. Cordyceps is used for a wide range of conditions including fatigue, sexual dysfunction, coughs, and as an adaptogen or immune stimulant. In vitro and animal studies show antitumor <a class=\"ext\" href=\"#references-10\"><sup>(10)<\/sup><\/a> <a class=\"ext\" href=\"#references-11\"><sup>(11)<\/sup><\/a> <a class=\"ext\" href=\"#references-14\"><sup>(14)<\/sup><\/a>, radioprotective <a class=\"ext\" href=\"#references-12\"><sup>(12)<\/sup><\/a>, and antidiabetic effects <a class=\"ext\" href=\"#references-15\"><sup>(15)<\/sup><\/a> <a class=\"ext\" href=\"#references-16\"><sup>(16)<\/sup><\/a>. In addition, cordyceps enhances recovery of mice with taxol-induced leukopenia <a class=\"ext\" href=\"#references-13\"><sup>(13)<\/sup><\/a> and increases the cytotoxicity of cisplatin in non-small cell lung cancer cells <a class=\"ext\" href=\"#references-17\"><sup>(17)<\/sup><\/a>.<br \/>\nIn a recent study cordyceps was shown to improve renal function in patients with chronic allograft nephropathy (CAN) <a class=\"ext\" href=\"#references-18\"><sup>(18)<\/sup><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Although no known drug interactions exist, blood glucose should be monitored in diabetics using cordyceps due to possible hypoglycemic effects.<br \/>\nAnimal studies showed proliferation of progenitor red blood cells with cordyceps <a class=\"ext\" href=\"#references-8\"><sup>(8)<\/sup><\/a>. Therefore, it should not be used by those with myelogenous type cancers.<br \/>\nCordyceps also stimulated testosterone production in mice <a class=\"ext\" href=\"#references-9\"><sup>(9)<\/sup><\/a>.
